Kate Beaton recently moved back to her native Nova Scotia as noted in this interview on localxpress (https://www.localxpress.ca/local-arts-and-life/cartoonist-kate-beaton-hits-big-leagues-while-relishing-her-withdrawal-to-mabou-350573). Kate’s webcomic, Hark! A Vagrant, has been collected into two books (so far) and both have been best-sellers, along with her kids book – Princess & a Pony!

Mike Cho has written and illustrated Shoplifter, a graphic novel published by Drawn & Quarterly and a collection of his urban landscapes showcasing the back alleys of Toronto. Currently he can be seen on many covers adorning Marvel Comics including the best-selling series Civil War II.

Jeph Jacques writes and draws Questionable Content. It has been his full-time job since September 2004.

Questionable Content is an internet comic strip about romance and robots. It started on August 1, 2003. It updates five times a week, Monday through Friday.

Jeph is originally from Rockville, MD, USA and currently lives in Halifax, NS, Canada. Jeph also makes Alice Grove, which is a sci-fi comic strip. He is also currently doing dord.horse. He also makes music.

Jordyn Bochon is known for her strange, and sometimes sexy, short stories. Recent releases include the second issue of her Gene Day Award-nominated comic, Finnegan Strappe and the Claw of the Earth, and the weekly choose-your-own-adventure comic Cuir’ro, published in Haligonian news magazine The Coast. Ryan North is a writer who lives in Toronto, where he writes Dinosaur Comics (you can read those for free at qwantz.com!), wrote the Eisner and Harvey award-winning Adventure Time comics (these ones cost money!), co-edited the #1 bestselling anthology series Machine of Death (you can read that at machineofdeath.net for free!) and writes the Eisner-nominated Unbeatable Squirrel Girl series for Marvel (again: they want your $$$).  His latest book, Romeo and/or Juliet, allows YOU to play through and make the decisions for Shakespeare’s heroes, which is absolutely a great idea and won’t cause them to get into trouble three choices in.  He once messed up walking his dog so badly it made the news.  Find out more at ryannorth.ca.

I think we covered Sandy Carruthers already, but we made this cool panel showing some of his work so let’s go over it again:

Sandy is a maritime artist from Prince Edward Island. His earlier comic book work includes Alien Nation, Invader From Mars and Men in Black. He later drew editorial cartoons and worked on Captain Canuck. After a time with Lerner producing ‘Choose or Lose’ Adventure comics, he started drawing for Charlton Neo revitalizing Pat Boyette’s ‘Spookman’, and co-creating with writer Roger McKenzie ‘Spirit Talker’ a western tale. He teaches Graphic Design full time at Holland College in Charlottetown PEI

Amber Solberg is an illustrator, artist, cartoonist and instructor with an eye for the odd. Hailing from Alberta, she headed east to the ocean and now lives and works in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A native Nova Scotian, he currently produces a webcomic called The Insult and a variety of comics in print, including his new anthology of short works called Flavour Country. Sarah Foote is a local artist and a big fan of web comics and manga.  She recently self-published her first art book/coloring book: “100 Gryphons”.  She mostly sketches in mechanical pencil and does the occasional ink piece, with the exception of the art for her book “100 Gryphons” where she inked one gryphon per day for 100 days.

Sarah mostly draws animals, fantasy creatures and anthropomorphic characters.  She has also dabbled in watercolor painting, started a couple comics, completed an engineering degree and learned to play the ocarina.

NO Such Thing as Grown Ups is a comedy podcast hosted by two non-grown ups Tara Audibert Indie Film Maker and owner of Moxy Fox Animation and Comic Studio and Curtis Carey “Morning Everybody” Youtuber and Game Developer extraordinaire. Both have been artists for decades and have never become grown ups. They will be selling commissions, prints, posters and indie comics, as well as promoting the indie film “The Importance of Dreaming” Coming 2016.

Christopher Hemsworth is a Halifax-based illustrator, artist, and designer, as well as the creator of the webcomic Dear Inner Demons.

His work has been featured in galleries, shops, and in numerous publications including WiRED Magazine, The Huffington Post, Applied Arts Magazine, and The Chronicle Herald.

In 2016 he embarked on a massive project entitled GIJOE365, which he will be showcasing at his DCAF table this year, along with many other pieces.

Elise Vermeulen is a small town girl with a strange interest in all things historical and cartoony.  Studying Animation and Illustration, she is located in Halifax as an animator for Teen Titans Go for Coperniucs Studios. Alex Branch is currently working at Copernicus Studios where he works as a build artist on Pickle and Peanut.

Alex has always loved movies like Jaws, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Godzilla, etc.

Ashe is a recent graduate from the NSCAD University Design program with a minor in Illustration. She is a comic artist and digital illustrator from Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. CK Russell is an east-coast Canadian comiker and maker of things who likes to tell stories about cowboys and superheroes… not necessarily at the same time. Her current projects include Colt, a western serial, Knights of Shadow, starring a Halifax based vigilante, and upcoming graphic novel The Ghost Army of Atlantis, written by comics newcomer Kevin O’Shea.

When not hiding from the burning disk in the sky, CK can be found where coffee, cheesecake, and wifi are plentiful.

Based in Halifax Nova Scotia, Duneworld Games consists of 5 artists and programmers. The group initially met at Global Game Jam 2014 hosted by Volta. After the jam, they went on to form the Duneworld Collective, with a focus on developing experimental games. Duneworld uses short time frames through self imposed one month deadlines and local game jams to test out ideas. This development process has allowed Duneworld to create 8 games over a 2 year period, often gaining website features, articles in the press, and many Let’s Play videos.

Duneworld added, “Our current goal is to get Over My Dead Body (For You) out on commercial platforms such as Steam and Wii U. The game was based on a previous prototype turned into a bigger more polished game based on feedback.”
